Edward Altherr, DMD, MS

Dr. Altherr began seeing patients in the Apex / Cary / Holly Springs area in his Apex office in October 2002. In addition to his private practice of orthodontics, he was on faculty at the University of North Carolina Department of Orthodontics from August 2004 through 2006, and still lectures to the orthodontic residents. Dr. Altherr earned his Dental Medicine Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997, and practiced general dentistry for 2 years before returning to UNC to complete the Masters program with an orthodontic certificate in 2002.

Dr. Altherr lives in the Apex area with his wife, Beth, their two dogs and their son, Benjamin. Dr. Altherr enjoys many recreational activities including soccer and golf. Dr. Altherr is also a huge North Carolina Tarheelsfan… Go Heels!!!

Amber – Orthodontic Chairside Assistant

Amber joined our practice in August 2008. She is a recent graduate of the dental assisting program at Wake Technical Community College. Amber is both state and nationally board certified in dental assisting. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, family, and friends. Her hobbies include photography, graphic design, and going to concerts.

Jennie – Treatment Coordinator/Billing

Jennie is originally from Chicago, and has made North Carolina home for the past 13 years. She brings six years of orthodontic front desk experience to our office and has been with our practice since the fall of 2006. She is married with two teenage children. Jennie spends most of her free time with family and friends and working with youth.

Elizabeth – Orthodontic Chairside Assistant

Elizabeth is a native of Clayton, and lives in the area with her recently married husband. She is a graduate of the dental assisting program at Wake Technical Community College, and has been with our practice since early 2007. Elizabeth is both state and nationally board certified in dental assisting. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, taking road trips and spending quality time with family and friends.

Sarah- Orthodontic Chairside Assistant

Sarah joined our practice in November 2007. She recently moved to NC with her husband a day after their wedding. Before moving from Massachusetts, Sarah completed her college degree in Science from Quinsigamond Community College where is also a registered Dental Hygienist. Sarah brings nearly 4 years of orthodontic assisting experience to our practice. Her hobbies include spending time with family, movies, reading and listening to good music.

Melissa – Orthodontic Chairside Assistant/Marketing Coordinator

Melissa graduated from the Wake Tech Dental Assisting program in 2002, and is a native of Cary. She is both state and nationally board certified with over 6 years of orthodontic and dental (cosmetic and pediatric) experience. Melissa has been with our practice for a total of 5 years. In her spare time, she enjoys water sports, running, the beach, watching NC State and spending time with her fiancé.

Sara – Treatment/Scheduling Coordinator

Sara is a native of North Carolina and brings over 15 years of orthodontic experience to our office, especially as treatment coordinator. Sara has been with our practice since March, 2009. In Sara’s words, “Treatment coordinator is my favorite position in orthodontics, I enjoy helping both children and adults understand the process and share in their excitement about braces!” In her spare time, Sara enjoys spending time with family and friends, and has one college aged daughter.
